Expected Employment Outcome Example

Certificate courses in this area equip graduates with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to performance and/or production of commercial music to enable them to gain employment in the commercial music industry. This includes arranging, composition, music business principles and experience in performing at on-the-job venues.

Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

Application Selection

Award Courses - SATAC application process

  • Applications for 2008 - Semester One must be made through the centralised TAFE Admissions system via SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre) by the advertised date.
  • Applicants can make one application for up to six course preferences.
  • Applications for Places Available courses are made direct to the relevant campus and a separate application is required for each course an applicant wants to study.

Course Notes

This course is highly competitive.
For further information, please contact the Noarlunga campus on 82073869 or the Salisbury campus on 82079960.
The entry point for the majority of applicants will be at Certificate IV level which leads to the Diploma.
This course requires the applicant to identify their preference of instrument.
All applicants are required to be able to play an instrument or sing at a level which would enable satisfactory performance in a band situation at a basic level.
Applications and changes of preference to include this course for the first time will not be considered after 30th November 2007.

    Arranging; aural; ensemble; history and appreciation; instrumental study; music business; music technology; sound reinforcement and songwriting; stage craft; music theory; and OH&S.
  • Diploma of Music
    Arranging; aural rhythm; aural melody; concert practice; contemporary ensemble; contemporary studies; instrumental major; keyboard piano; music craft; music practical training; music technology; specialist ensemble and history; music theory; and OH&S.

Minimum Entry Requirements

  • Satisfactory performance in an audition
and any one of:
  • Satisfactory completion of SACE Stage 2 (or equivalent)
  • Any Certificate II in same area
  • Any Certificate III
  • Satisfactory achievement in the TAFE SA Assessment of Basic Skills (TABS)

Qualification/Certification

Successful completion of this course provides you with Certificate IV in Music. Students who elect to only do a certain number of modules within this Qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment.

Fees

Charges vary between courses and subjects and are based on a rate per hour. Concessions may be available to holders of certain government concession cards, and in some circumstances fees may be paid by instalment. A brochure detailing the refund of fees policy is available at each campus. The standard TAFE SA fee for State Government-subsidised courses undertaken by students enrolled in two consecutive semesters is capped at $1980 in 2008. This fee cap does not apply to all courses.

Students are generally expected to purchase their own textbooks, personal equipment, uniforms and stationery.
