Certificate IV in Building

These courses prepare graduates for work on commercial and industrial projects as well as low rise residential buildings. Students will also gain the skills to work in an architectural or design office preparing plans and documents.

Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

Award Courses - SATAC application process

• Applications for 2008 - Semester One must be made through the centralised TAFE Admissions system via SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre) by the advertised date.
• Applicants can make one application for up to six course preferences.
• Applications for Places Available courses are made direct to the relevant campus and a separate application is required for each course an applicant wants to study.

• Certificate IV in Building
  Builder's working drawings; building computing applications; building quantities and estimating; building site supervision; building site surveying and set out; building studio; building technology; business management; construction; cost control and planning; materials; practical experience; residential site safety; structures; timber framing code; and following OH&S procedures.

Award Courses - SATAC application process

• Satisfactory completion of SACE Stage 2 (or equivalent)
• Any Certificate II in same area
• Any Certificate III
• Satisfactory achievement in the TAFE SA Assessment of Basic Skills (TABS)

Successful completion of this course provides you with Certificate IV in Building. Students who elect to only do a certain number of modules within this Qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment.

Charges vary between courses and subjects and are based on a rate per hour. Concessions may be available to holders of certain government concession cards, and in some circumstances fees may be paid by instalment. A brochure detailing the refund of fees policy is available at each campus. The standard TAFE SA fee for State Government-subsidised courses undertaken by students enrolled in two consecutive semesters is capped at $1980 in 2008. This fee cap does not apply to all courses.

Students are generally expected to purchase their own textbooks, personal equipment, uniforms and stationery.
