Expected Employment Outcome Example

Certificates in vocational education studies provide the foundation skills for a career in construction and further graduates' chances of obtaining an apprenticeship. Vocational education studies are offered in construction; brick/blocklaying/tiling and plastering; furnishing; furnishing (floor covering & finishing); painting and decorating; signwriting; and plumbing.

Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

Application Selection

Award Courses - SATAC application process

  • Applications for 2008 - Semester One must be made through the centralised TAFE Admissions system via SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre) by the advertised date.
  • Applicants can make one application for up to six course preferences.
  • Applications for Places Available courses are made direct to the relevant campus and a separate application is required for each course an applicant wants to study.

Skills Covered

  • Certificate II in Signwriting
    Basic layout, lettering and signwriting brush techniques; communicating in the workplace; creating computer generated vinyl signage; following OH&S procedures; implementing quality control; pictorial drawing perspectives and freehand posters and banners; preparing surfaces; the basics of computer generated signage; using and maintaining tools and equipment; using colour; using general vinyl applications; and working with ladders, trestles and scaffolding.

Qualification/Certification

Successful completion of this course provides you with Certificate II in Signwriting. Students who elect to only do a certain number of modules within this Qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment.

Fees

Charges vary between courses and subjects and are based on a rate per hour. Concessions may be available to holders of certain government concession cards, and in some circumstances fees may be paid by instalment. A brochure detailing the refund of fees policy is available at each campus. The standard TAFE SA fee for State Government-subsidised courses undertaken by students enrolled in two consecutive semesters is capped at $1980 in 2008. This fee cap does not apply to all courses.

Students are generally expected to purchase their own textbooks, personal equipment, uniforms and stationery.
